Lunchtime Learning: Trauma-informed Practice
Whāraurau invites you to attend our online Lunchtime Learning Webinar Trauma-informed practice with Debbie Watkin, Te Puaruruhau.
Trauma-informed practice
With the growing knowledge about neuroscience, epigenetics and how exposure to trauma impacts the brain and the body, changes are being made that inform both policy and clinical practice. We now recognise the impact that both adversity and kindness have on people’s lives. Relationships are the agents of change and it is our responsibility as practitioners to put this learning into practice, nurture workforce wellness and resilience-focused mindsets. It is safety first: Maslow before Bloom, Care before Content, Relationship before Rigor, Connection before Correction.
In this lunchtime learning you will have an opportunity to :
- expand your knowledge on childhood trauma and the lingering legacy it leaves;
- understand the progression from ACES to PACES;
- appreciate the transmission of historical intergenerational trauma;
- learn how trauma affects the brain and influences development, behaviour and learning, and of the survival strategies we adopt;
- define and respond to behaviour from a trauma-informed lens;
- learn the 7 R’s of trauma-informed care and how a ‘bottom-up approach’ is necessary;
- identify ways that enhance a clinician’s capacity to create a safe trauma-informed environment from which to intervene, support and care.
