Whilst many children, young people and whānau have fared well in response to the impacts of COVID-19 in Aotearoa, this has not been the case for all. There have been reports of increased pressures on wellbeing-focused service delivery across sectors; and increasing numbers of referrals at all levels of service delivery. This has included children and young people being referred for eating issues/eating disorders. Reports of young people presenting with eating disorders with high levels of severity and complexity have led to significant concerns for the wellbeing of these young people and that of their whānau. In partnership with the Ministry of Health, Whāraurau - the Infant, Child and Youth Workforce Development programme, has scoped an initiative which aims to enhance the current activity across relevant sectors to increase workforce capacity and capability to meet some of the current demands of service delivery to children and young people experiencing eating issues/eating disorder; and their whānau.

To support this process, we are establishing an External Advisory Group for one year:

Functions:
The primary function of the External Advisory Group is to bring individual perspectives and expertise to provide advice, support, critical thinking and challenge to the delivery of this initiative. This is an advisory rather than decision-making forum. Specific functions are as follows:
•    To provide advice to Whāraurau on the initiative.
•    To provide advice to the Ministry of Health (MOH) relating to eating disorders on request, as an example MOH are also seeking expert advice on service delivery to people experiencing an eating disorder in the development phase of the System and Service Provision Framework.

The external roles we are seeking will include the following perspectives:
•    Advocacy role
•    Family representation role
•    Lived experience adult
•    Māori representation
•    Pacific representation
