This is a two-day online training on Monday 22 April and Tuesday 23 April which will be led by Tipene Pickett, who is a Motivational Interviewing (MI) practitioner.

Tipene has a special interest in the relationship between Tikanga Māori and MI. He utilises the Pātūwatawata perspective of the pōwhiri process and use of pūrākau alongside the western approach of MI acknowledging each have their own inherent influence in a conversation for change.

The course will cover:

  • Group engagement
  • Stages of group formation and cohesion
  • Group exercise that can be used in support, therapeutic and educational groups
