Whāraurau invites you to attend our online Lunchtime Learning event:

Neurodiversity in Aotearoa

with John Vogenthaler and Paul Holmes from Te Pou

Learn about what we mean by the term neurodiversity, where the term comes from and how it impacts our understanding of the people we work with. The webinar will look at neurodiversity in an Aotearoa context, highlight important issues, briefly touch on a few key impairments, support strategies and links to additional resources and learning opportunities. The webinar will also include reflections and insight from a self-advocate with lived experience of disability.

Presenters:

John Vogenthaler is the Programme Lead and Principal Advisor/ Disability at Te Pou. He has extensive experience as a teacher, clinical specialist and support worker in Aotearoa and overseas. His work currently focusses on FASD, Positive Behavioural Support and the mental health needs of autistic people and individuals with learning disabilities.

Paul Holmes is a proud advocate for disabled people. He currently supports Te Pou as a member of the Disability Workforce Development Advisory Group and Equitable Access to Wellbeing project governance group. He has also previously done work for People First NZ, the Personal Advocacy and Safeguarding Adults Trust and others. Paul has lived experience of disability, or as he says, “special abilities.”

Te Pou is a not-for-profit, national workforce development centre which aims to improve the lives of people with mental health, addiction, and disability needs by connecting the people working with them, tāngata whai ora, tāngata whaikaha and their whānau, with knowledge, resources, training, and information.
