Whāraurau invites you to attend our online Lunchtime Learning event:

Drug Checking

with Leah Rothman, from NZ Drug Foundation

Drug checking checks the safety of drugs and is Aotearoa’s latest drug harm reduction service.  It combines scientific practices with relaxed harm reduction conversations, giving people practical information to reduce harm from drugs in a non-judgmental and non-stigmatizing way.

In this Lunchtime Learning session, Leah Rothman will provide you with an overview of what it is, how to talk to young people about it and how they can access it. We will touch on the harm reduction model, tips and advice to talk about with young people who use drugs and where to get more information.

Those in attendance will walk away with knowledge of what drug checking is and how to encourage young people who use drugs to use the service and stay safer.

NZ Drug Foundation

Drug use can cause social, health and economic harms to individuals, families, and communities. This includes harms caused by tobacco and alcohol. Preventing and reducing drug-related harm is the challenge the New Zealand Drug Foundation has taken on.

They have been at the forefront of major alcohol and other drug policy debates for more than 30 years, advocating for policies and practices based on the best evidence available. They recognise drugs, legal and illegal, are a part of everyday life experience, so they are safety focused and take a harm reduction approach in all their work.

The Drug Foundation is a registered charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005 (No. CC27025). Their work is supported by government funding, corporate and private grants and donations, and by their members.
