Discover how VOYCE actively engages with young people in care to ascertain their needs, facilitate dialogues and collaborate with partners and government bodies to drive positive change. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of VOYCE–Whakarongo Mai's essential role in championing the voices and rights of tamariki and rangatahi in the care system. VOYCE–Whakarongo Mai operates as a staunch advocate for young people in care, emphasising the crucial importance of ensuring their voices resonate with both government entities and the care system itself.
Together we will explore the key objectives of VOYCE–Whakarongo Mai, including:
- The Te Pūtake Kōkiri framework and guiding pou
- How VOYCE links tamariki and rangatahi in care with advocates and trusted adults, empowering them to express their opinions.
- How VOYCE supports care experienced young people to share their personal stories in their own words, particularly when pivotal decisions affecting their lives are being made.
- Collaboration with Iwi, Māori organisations, and community groups to create robust support networks around young people in care.
- VOYCE organises events designed to facilitate connections, fun, and idea-sharing among young people in care.
- How VOYCE continuously develops a care-experienced support community to bolster its collective voice within the system.
- We will examine the establishment of the youth council comprising of care-experienced young people, dedicated to advocating for their peers on issues that impact their lives.
VOYCE–Whakarongo Mai, founded in 2017, is a distinct charitable organization dedicated to advocating for the rights of tamariki and rangatahi who have experienced the care system in Aotearoa. It was formed through collaboration, with input from those with care experience. VOYCE's mission is to amplify the voices of young people with care experience, working to bring about positive changes for individuals and transform the broader care system.
