The Real Skills Plus ICAMH/AOD Competency Framework describes the skills and knowledge necessary to work with infants, children and young people who may be experiencing mental health and/or alcohol and other drug issues.

Real Skills Plus (RSP) includes three levels:

  • Primary Level for workers in the primary sector who work with infants, children and young people.
  • Core Level for practitioners working in services that focus on mental health and/or AOD concerns.
  • Specific Level for senior or specialist practitioners working at an advanced level of practice.

The Real Skills Plus online self-assessment enables individuals and services to complete RSP assessment and receive a report identifying strengths as well as areas for ongoing professional development. The report can then be used to plan for professional development.

Feedback

Nelson ICAMH

The Real Skills Plus Framework has been a really useful process for our service development and has helped us to consider workforce development based on our clinicians' experience and training. It has helped us to identify training needs as a team, and also on an individual basis for performance appraisals.

The process was a lot easier than previous years and much more user-friendly. The reports were easy to understand and the support from Werry Workforce Whāraurau throughout the whole process was outstanding.

Adventure Development

Adventure Development has incorporated and has utilised the Real Skills Plus (RSP) framework as part of our HR and Professional Development process for Clinical and Community Support Worker roles.  There are three keyways we use RSP;

  1. Applicants for positions complete a very abridged paper version of RSP that allows us to gain greater and more specific information re them as applicants, and
  2. We have all new staff complete the electronic RSP as part of our Induction process (allowing us to target training)
  3. as a yearly stocktake of all staff which informed our PD planning at a team and company level.
